Why animal chiropractic?
Gray became interested in this work after seeing the results in his German shorthair pointer, Nicky. She developed a limp in her right front leg that did not respond to a course of conventional—and expensive—treatment. After just one chiropractic adjustment her gait improved. After two, Nicky was back to normal.
Just like people, animals get joint restrictions that can make them uncomfortable, affect their daily living, and reduce their level of performance, whether they are working animals or running buddies.
The science of veterinary spinal manipulative therapy (VSMT) is based upon the use of spinal manipulation to restore full and pain-free range of motion to joints.
When is chiropractic care beneficial?A chiropractic adjustment is a gentle treatment that corrects mechanical problems. It can align the joints, relieve muscle and nerve dysfunction, and restore healthy mechanical function.
Animal chiropractic can help animals with the pain associated with disc disease, arthritis, hip dysplasia, TMJ, and injuries. It can also be beneficial after surgery and dental procedures.
Some signs to look for in your animals are:
• Decreased level of performance
• Muscle imbalance, spasms or atrophy
• Obscure lameness, uneven gait or stiffness
• Pelvic asymmetries
Symptoms specific to horses are:
•
Not taking leads, reduced impulsion, poor transitions
• Uncharacteristically cinchy, crabby, or uncooperative
How do I set up an appointment?
Contact Gray to schedule a session. The state of Minnesota requires a veterinary referral, so you will need the name of your veterinarian and his/her contact information (preferably a fax number). Gray will then facilitate the referral for your animal.
Appointments will take place at your residence.
Before an adjustment, Gray will discuss your animal’s health history and current symptoms. Most animals respond well to chiropractic and are comfortable with procedure as it is a gentle, non-invasive treatment.
If you have any concerns about your animal’s behavior, please raise them. Your presence and assistance throughout the exam and treatment are welcome. First visits may take 30 to 45 minutes.
